I invited some old friends from Youth For Christ days, where I was involved as a volunteer. I wasn't allowed to go to church those days, and somehow found by a St Nicks senior who was then a volunteer at YFC. She became my mentor, gave me Bible studies, had prayer meetings, and now that we are wives and moms, I am glad we are still friends.
Ian had his orientation today. He had a short lesson, met his classmates and form teacher and we bought the boys' books. I wrapped them with plastic, labelled everything and sewed their name tags, totally exhausted but we are in a way ready for school! :)
Ian at the inaugural wushu/kungfu world championships @ MBS
It all started with my brother-in-law teaching Ian some Akido steps, then I realised that he not only remembered the steps after a long time, he also love doing it again and again. Combined with his love for kungfu stuff, we signed him up for wushu classes at the community centre near us. It wasn't easy for him initially, because the instructions were carried out in Mandarin, and the steps were complicated and required a lot of hand-eye coordination. So when he came to me one day, with a gleam in his eye, and told me he wanted to take part in the wushu competition, I had my reservations. But I couldn't bear to say no,so I let him take part, with the mentality of just giving him the exposure and having fun. He did very well that day! He lost balance at one point and that cost him, but we weren't expecting anything, so we were over the moon when he came in third for his age category! Proud of you Ian!
Caleb has always bean ardent fan of Sherlock Sam so we were thrilled when there was going to be a Sherlock Same Treasure's hunt organised in conjunction with Monsters Under the Bed. The hubba paired up with Caleb while I paired up with Ian for the hunt, and I swear my heart almost burst when I had to carry Joy while climbing that long flight of University stairs! So you can imagine our surprise when Ian came in first, and at the fastest time among all the teams that took part that day! For that he won a Lego Watson, $100 Popular Vouchers, and the authors of Sherlock Sam will be writing Ian into one of their short stories which will be ready very soon! Can't wait! :)
